The original Hotchkiss company was founded in 1885 in Eastbourne and worked as maintenance engineers in oil, gas, hydraulic and steam engines.
Over the years the style of work changed and the company became involved with structural
steelwork and architectural metalwork. In due course, a sheet metalwork division was added leading
to the formation of Hotchkiss Ltd. in 1965.
The current Group Chairman, Michael Ohly, joined the company in 1971 and whilst there is now
no involvement with steelwork or architectural metalwork the business has grown and diversified
into specialist areas connected to the construction industry.
The Hotchkiss Group now has interests in air conditioning and ventilation ductwork
contracting, manufacture and distribution of specialist ventilation equipment,
manufacture and installation of fire resistant duct systems, manufacture of fire resistant and
acoustic coatings, environmental monitoring, duct cleaning and manufacturers and distributors of
duct cleaning equipment, high pressure water cleaning equipment, dry ice manufacturing and cleaning equipment.
