The original Hotchkiss company was founded in 1885 in Eastbourne. Hotchkiss has always had engineering at the heart of its business; back in the 19th century the company worked as maintenance engineers in oil, gas, hydraulic and steam engines.
Over the years the style of work changed and the company became involved with structural steelwork and architectural metalwork. In due course, a sheet metalwork division was added leading to the formation of Hotchkiss Ltd. in 1965.
The current Group Chairman, Michael Ohly, joined the company in 1971 and from that point the sheet metal division/ventilation ductwork business started to grow. Whilst there is now no longer any involvement with steelwork or architectural metalwork the Group has grown and diversified into other specialist areas including fire rated ducting, duct cleaning and specialist high pressure water and dry ice equipment.
The Group now employs over 500 staff in the UK and overseas and has manufacturing operations in Eastbourne, Harlow, Wolverhampton and Middlefart (in Denmark). It has trade counter operations in Bury, Stoke, Nottingham, London, Rochester, Eastleigh and Hailsham.
